Fast Track Gas Engineer Course

An MLP is a route for anyone with limited to no experience in the gas industry to study and achieve a level of knowledge and experience to enable them to become a gas engineer and sit their ACS.
The course comprises of 280 hours of guided learning within the training centre along with an onsite practical portfolio that will need to be completed to evidence practical experience on site with a qualified engineer.
The course can be completed in as little as six months provided that all aspects of the guided learning and portfolio have been satisfied and signed off.
On completion of the MLP, the trainee will achieve a temporary level 3 qualification that will enable them to go on to sit the ACS gas assessment. Those successful will then be able to join the Gas Safe register. The standard MLP includes CCN1 and CENWAT (core domestic gas, water heaters and boilers) although other modules can be added to the course.
The course comprises of various modules that the trainee will have to evidence a good understanding of as well as practical experience on during the times out on site.
The New Entrants Package begins with the basic principles of gas heating, plumbing and pipework before moving into more specific areas including gas safety, working with hot water systems and electrical installation.

During your 40 days in-centre training, topics are broken down into easy-to-follow sections so that candidates can build up the knowledge and confidence to develop their practical experience and pass the required assessments.

Topics covered include:

Introduction to plumbing, gas and heating theory
Pipework installation and practical skills
Gas legislation, building regulations and British standards
Industry unsafe situations procedures
Safe isolation of electrical installations
Principles of flues, chimneys and combustion
Tightness testing of domestic natural gas installations
Measuring and interpretation of gas pressures and the calculation of heat inputs
Gas appliance functions and the operation of gas safety controls
Energy efficiency for domestic heating
Managed Learning Programme (MLP) for Domestic Natural Gas
