Rogue traders Called out to a no hot water job in Ilkley Leeds today and found this really poor gas boiler installation.
Today I’m doing Day in the Life of a Plumber / Gas Engineer.
The first two jobs today are no hot water, so we’ve been called out to no hot water. So what I’m going to do is I’m going to take you in, show you this first one now. So this first one is a Vaillant boiler in quite a large house and they’ve no hot water, but when you see this, this instal is absolutely shocking. So let’s go and have a look at that now.
So this is a 37 kw Vaillant boiler. When we look at the flue, the flue is not sealed through the wall. It’s also not installed correctly, so it’s been leaking. You can see it’s also leaked on to the top of the boiler there. Also, there’s the pipework on it, it’s hard to see on these pictures, but it’s not even piped correctly, so the hot water would have never worked very well since it’s been installed. So with the customer’s permission, this job has been capped off and made safe and a warning notice left for customer.
So as I’m sure you’ll agree, that installation was shocking. So what we’ve done is, there was loads of faults with that to be honest, so even the gas pipe had been nailed to the cement all the way around the house. So obviously with the gas we need a space between the gas pipe and the wall. So there were lots and lots of faults, so I can only assume it’s been DIY or something like that. I’m not sure. But anyway, we’ll go and have a look at this next no hot water job. So the next one is a hot water cylinder that’s not working. So I’ve only got a little, small clip of this one. So we’ll show you that one as well. Let’s go and have a look now.
So what we’ve got here, we’ve got the unvented cylinder is leaking. So it’s going to be a new cylinder for this one. But it’s just been left. It’s been in a house, it’s been left for about 10, 12 years, and they don’t use it very often. So it’s got like this.
